Recently We interviewed Mr A.K. Singh sir, PGT Chemistry teaching the students of KV DRDO. Let us now hear about his experience during this never-ending pandemic...
1. How was the experience of suddenly conducting online classes?
`
“A nice question! See, teaching is the transfer of knowledge from teacher to student. In an offline class, we could easily find out whether a student can understand a concept or not. But during an online class, the situation is hypothetical; teachers just have to assume that students behind the screens have understood the concept. Also adapting to technology in a long run was an uphill task”.
2. Which modes of classes do you prefer-online or offline?
“I would prefer offline classes because teaching involves interaction with students. In online classes it is just one-way communication, teachers deliver their lectures with an expectation that students would respond but due to technical or any other reasons students are unable to respond to the questions asked, which widens the gap between a student and teacher.”
3. What are the suggestions you have for the students?
“Whether it is online or offline classes, whenever you are in a class try to understand the meaning of any concept being taught, consider it as a language. Whenever you recall a concept, a picture of it should come to your mind.”
4. Is the online mode of examination a reliable way to conduct examinations?
“It completely depends upon the candidate giving the exam, whether it is online or offline exam if he or she taking the exam is honest then the evaluation becomes easier. But as far as an online exam is concerned the chance of malpractice is high as students are behind the screen and there is complete autonomy to cheat as no one is in front of them. Though everyone does not cheat, some of them always exist. So in all likelihood, an offline exam is better than an online exam.”
5. What is your take on the cancellation of board exams 2021 and the result based on a unique evaluation criterion?
“The evaluation criteria by the board is very fair as the weightage ratio 30:30:40 i.e. 10th class score (30%), 11th class score (30%) and 12th class score (40%). Now the chance of manipulation is very less, which will make the result fair and it is made sure no student will be drastically affected, though a few might be affected but satisfying everyone holistically is not possible. If the internal assessment was considered, it would turn unfair to the students who did not have the access to the online education.”
