" I am a cricket fan, no one can deny the fact if you need a clarification my previous cricketing articles on the game can be visited. I had a lot of other plans in the first place but I chose this to happen as I wanted to give myself some more time to blog on those aspects."
" IPL Mega Auctions is something that I waited as these mini-auctions just becomes a one-sided affair with unsettled setups bidding for players and settled setups just have coffee and roasted cashews in the auction."
" But mega auctions in the tournament is just the process of unsettling setups, which makes many stakeholders unhappy as teams are to invest in players for a certain period in between mega auctions and in the process they are compelled to release most of their performers and they do not have the luxury to buy back, everyone in the mega auction."
" Watching the Day 1 of the mega auctions on television was quite engaging as all other programmes across channels yesterday were quite boring. It was quite a day for the players especially Indian and overseas middle-order batters and all-rounders."
" I shall only quote out my observations on Day 1 of the Auction as a cricket enthusiast, so I will unfortunately not be able to cover all the sold players."
" First observation is about the steals. The first one should be the steal of QDK ( Quinton De Kock) who goes to Lucknow at just 6.75 crores ( Deserved a crore more, a wicketkeeper, potential captain, opening batsman, sure shot 30 runs bank ), David Warner to Dehli capitals at just 6.25 crores ( I expected 8.5 crores at least, again experience, opener, sure shot 30 runs bank.). They were in the marquee set of the auction. Now Ravi Ashwin also is the steal for Rajasthan at 5 crores ( Last Mega Auction was paid 7.6 crores, Again in the marquee set this auction,4 overs sure shot). Other than that Yuzi Chahal to RR at 6.75 crores was a steal ( He came quite late in the evening, should have been in the marquee set, he didn't receive a bid from RCB, which is quite against the logic,4 overs sure shot.).Jonny Bairstow around 6 crores to Punjab was also a steal ( See, a wicketkeeper, can bat anywhere, a decent fielder as well,.sure shot 30 runs bank)."
" Secondly the experienced youngsters ( Category in which Kl Rahul, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya fall.). Looking out here is a QDK, Trent Boult(8 Cr to RR,4 overs sure shot), Nitish Rana( 8 Cr to KKR, sure shot 20 runs bank, can bat anywhere), Rahul Tripathi(8.5 Cr to SRH, sure shot 25 runs bank, can bat anywhere), Kuldeep Yadav ( 2 Cr To DC, Heavily underpriced for a bowler of his quality, give him a regular spot in the playing 11 firstly,4 overs sure shot.),Kagiso Rabada( 9.25 Cr to PBKS,4 overs sure shot.), Pat Cummins( 7.25 Cr to KKR, Rightly priced I could say, 4 overs sure shot,10 runs in the backend.) and Shreyas Iyer (12.25 Cr to KKR, potential captaincy option with a great track record, sure shot 30 runs bank.)."
"Thirdly the veterans are well priced. Firstly Faf du Plessis (7 Cr to Rcb, Opener but can bat anywhere, sure shot 30 runs bank, potential captain, too.), Dwayne Bravo (4.4 Cr to CSK, like Cummins, Rightly priced I could say, 4 overs sure shot,10 runs in the backend.), Ambati Rayudu ( 6.75 Cr to CSK, Opener but can bat anywhere, sure shot 25 runs bank, a backup keeper for MSD as well.),Dinesh Karthik ( 5.5 Cr to RCB, A Wicketkeeper, sure shot 20 runs bank at the backend, potential captain, too.), Robin Uthappa (2 Cr base price, Opener but can bat anywhere, sure shot 25 runs bank, a backup keeper for MSD as well.), Ravi Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan (9.25 Cr to PBKS, again experience, opener, sure shot 30 runs bank.),Manish Pandey ( 4.6 Cr to LSGcan bat anywhere, sure shot 30 runs bank, potential captain, too.)
, many others were there but I remember these many as of now."
" Now coming to players who get a fat paycheck in the day 1 of mega auction ( More than 7Cr, who were missed from above-mentioned). Wow, Ishan Kishan ( 15.25 Cr, A Wicketkeeper, sure shot 30 runs, can bat anywhere but preferably the opener. Now QDK could ask Kishan, I perform the same roles but I am underpriced. The answer could be that it's IPL and Indians of my quality will be sold at such prices, my dear friend.), Hasaranga and Harshal Patel ( Both at10.75 Cr to RCB, Harshal is purple but will he be the same, wait and watch,4 overs sure shot,10 runs in the backend. Hasaranga again,4 overs sure shot,15-20 runs in the backend, but 10.75 Cr is quite..), Nicholas Pooran ( 10.75 Cr to SRH, Last IPL was a fat flop but wait to look at his features, A Wicketkeeper, sure shot 20-25 runs bank, potential captain, too.), Shimron Hetmeyer (8.5 Cr to RR, 20-25 runs in the backend.),Lockie Ferguson ( 10Cr TO GT Out and outpace,4 overs sure shot.), Jason Holder (8.75 Cr to LSG,4 overs sure shot,15-20 runs in the backend, potential captain, too.), Krunal Pandya ( 8.25 Cr to LSG, 4 overs sure shot, sure shot 20 runs bank if bats at numbers 4-6.),Deepak Chahar (14 Cr to CSK, 4 overs sure shot,10 runs in the backend.), Shardul Thakur (10.75 to DC, CSK will miss him, based on his recent exploits at a higher level, 2-3 overs with an economy rate about 7.5-8, wicket-taker, 15-20 runs at the backend if utilized properly.), Rahul Tewatia ( 9 Cr to GT,2-3 overs Sureshot, 15-20 in the backend), Shahrukh Kahn ( 9 Cr to Pbks,20-25 runs in the backend, could give an over or two). Quite a long list, many more might exist but I remember these many."
" I Don't want to speak about the unsold players ( MR IPL is unsold on day1 by the way.) as they could be picked on day 2 and this is a double feature blog so maybe the day 2 blog could come out on a weekday as I need to cover today's auction. It could be boring to read, but for this week, please bear with me as I am doing something in my comfort zone after a long time, next week I will come out with an interesting analysis."
"Day 2 of the Mega Auction is a seat filling measure for the teams, so the players in the auction list on the second day could consider themselves unlucky as they might not be paid as high as that of the first day, but the passion never dies. But from this time IPL is a10 team affair, compelling teams to spend more on quality players to secure the player's services. Also, teams tend to simply bid for players to increase the biding price of the players (This is an observation and this time the minimum number of seats to be filled is quite high on day 2 and the purse value is comparatively less than previous auctions at the same point of time, so it could be interesting day2.)
