"910 or नौ सौ दस or தொள்ளாயிரம் பத்து and what not in diverse languages but all mean the same 910. Coming to the point this blog is about a 2003 Kollywood (Tamil) movie, 'Anbe Sivam' where the number 910 itself has a role to play."
"The reference of 910 is found throughout this song and the movie which is addressed as Toḷḷāyiram pattu ( ie 910 in Tamil.) in this song. Again what is interesting here is the use of therukoothu to describe the core of this issue. Koothu or Therukoothu is an ancient art, where artists play songs with dance and music in storytelling the epics, performed in Tamil. Here the act or demonstration is carried out to create awareness amongst the public present there about the way how the working-class is being exploited by a few white collars. 910 here is the monthly wages of exploited worker's. Maybe I might end up calling this song to be one of the best satirical descriptions to be ever made."
"Now covering a few aspects of the movie, the movie has two central characters Anbarusu played by R. Madhavan ( Who prefers to be called A ars.) is an ad filmmaker, can be adjusted as a yet another common man ( a selfish capitalist.) and Nallasivam played by Kamal Haasan ( Who is addressed as Nalla by his compatriots but after a drastic and speaks a lot of communism ☭ throughout the film.) along with Nasser playing the role of the big business magnet (indirectly referred in the above-embedded song.). A special mention to the character played by Santhana Bharathi who plays Nasser's right hand."
" The movie is inspired partially from the 1987 American comedy Planes, Trains and Automobiles ( but ideologically very different film ) starts at Bhubneshwar Airport where both the central character of the film meet due to a coincidence and both have a common destination ie Chennai aka Madras but very much have a conflicting ideology but circumstances just forced willingly or unwillingly to travel together to Madras. Around the travel is where the number 910 is linked to the film."
" This scene proves everything. Now, this A.ars is quite judgemental and there are a couple of references in the film where the guy probably just pre-decides who is what by his/her's look's( the most common human tendency first impression), due to which he gets cheated, reflecting the fact that a book never can be judged by its cover. Also in the whole movie, you'll find a commentary on communism versus capitalism."
The song is dedicated to narrative and it can be found by hearing the lyrics carefully (For this blog I heard this song at least 5-To 6 times to crack down on what it meant, possibly shall sing it).
"Well, I remember one of my friends during an English class briefing us about communism, so if that friend of mine watches this movie and understands the movie quite well then the purpose of making us understand communism is alone served."
" Now coming back to 910, is it just a number. The answer shall be is yes but a very significant number as in terms economy of a middle-class family 910 does make an impact on the month's budget. The domestic LPG cylinder currently costs around 910-1000 rupees so it
is quite understandable 910 not only in this movie but in our day to day economics has a significant impact."
"I can conclude m-blog by saying that this movie is a recommended watch as we watch quite some masala and Hollywood films, web series and stuff for passing our time, so this also can be watched because it does try to give out something. Yes, it is a Kollywood recommendation but that is fine as we Indians can be unified by cinema and sports and for quality, cinema language should not merely be a barrier. The film is available on Amazon prime with English subtitles and on youtube as well ( A dubbed version in Hindi named Sivam released by b4u movies on their youtube channel.). If you aren't able to believe me yet then you may watch the scene below till the end."
And 910 for you!
